Flock Focus Friday. 9/19/14

Doc Brown, White Crested Black Polish hen
It was a relatively quiet week here at Blazing Trails Farm. Say "amen." The town, which is suing me to eliminate my chickens from my backyard is still on the ropes of public opinion and constituent pressure and for that, I thank you. If you are inclined to keep the heat on, I encourage you to reiterate why backyard chickens matter.

Your hatching series is perfect information to have on hand. I love that it walked me through my first hatch and I didn't get near as many grey hairs from the experience as I could have :) It's so rewarding to hear the little babies softly peeping inside the shell after that first pip!

This would help me out with my chickens deciding to hatch in the fall instead the summer. And I have a question. Why would my bantum broody kick 2eggs out of the nest but allows me to put them back under her? I'm getting ready to candle them. I noticed that when I tap 2 eggs the sound like I'm tapping China.

Well after candling 2 nanny eggs are dark with what looks like legs. One sounds slushy. I checked another clutch that a black hen is sitting on and I found 3 black areas with the aural. So should I start getting a nursing set up? I have no clue when the 21 days started. This is the first year I've had hatchlings and a broody besides when I introduced new store bought ones and my oldest girl acts like the grandmother of the flock lol. I've been trying to read your blogs and get aquanted to this new adventure lol

I would love to have a Brinsea incubator and it is something I will be getting before I buy more eggs! I just lost 30+ eggs in mine the last few weeks because the temperature is starting to go crazy for some reason! Thanks for introducing us great products for our much loved chicks and the awesome giveaways! Email subscriber sonyadmorris@gmail.com
