Flock Focus Friday, 6/6/14 featuring a Happy Hen Treats Prize Package GIVEAWAY!

Serama rooster & hen
This week would have been perfect but for the stomach flu that leveled me for a good 48 hours. I did manage to sneak outside during a delusional spell to snap a few pics only to regret that decision very quickly. I recovered in time to enjoy the remainder of the week though and it was spectacular! Please enjoy the photos of my peeps and thanks for visiting!

My P. Allen Smith babies are GINORMOUS. They're feathering out like crazy and revealing their genders. From what I can tell, there is a male Silver Laced Wyandotte, a female Black White Faced Spanish, a female Barred Plymouth Rock and a pair of Silver Grey Dorkings! Not shown are a Buff Orpington female, and a Light Sussex male with an attitude as big as any I have ever seen in a chick!

A good night's rest can make you feel energized, motivated and ready to take on the world. Oh...sorry. That's coffee. Coffee does that.
Monday again? Nobody make eye contact and maybe it will just go away.
Rabbit, rabbit.
Don't ask. Just pour the coffee.

Hi there, your comment about knowing what sex the P. Alken Smith chicks leaves me wondering. How can you tell the sex? I ordered females and the company sent two exotics as a bonus but they are straight run. How can I tell what sex they are? 1 is like your golden and black polish and the other is an all gray feather footed chick. They are almost done molting their baby 'fuzz'. They were born on Mother's Day. Thank so much. I know your super busy and I am glad to hear your health is better.

I live in a condo community in New York city and can't keep chickens in my front yard (but I do have cats and a lizard indoors). But you have me thinking about moving to New Hampshire when I retire and starting a flock! My friends up there are hoping I'll move next year. They know about the cats, but will be shocked if I start raising chickens.

I can spend hours reading your blog! I'm giving serious consideration to using sand in my new coop and covered run, my only hesitation is I live in the forest of the Pacific North West. Fingers crossed I can make it work!

Thanks for another great giveaway, Kathy. My flocks are absolutely wild about their Happy Hens treats. They come running when I walk out the door to Chickenville. You'd think they'd learn...no treats until you eat your breakfast!

Hello, SO We started chicken keeping this year and I must say I learn loads from your Blog. I do have a question and perhaps you've already answered this. We have some 5 week old silver laced wyandotte chicks. Our first 4 chicks have grown up together and it turned out we have a rooster in the bunch. His name is Elvis.. the King! Anyway, one of our friends who we got the chicks from is moving away and wanted us to have the rest of the chicks from the same clutch. Turns out there is another rooster in that group of 3 chicks. Well we introduced them to each other using a separator early this week. they seem to be fine so we took the separator out today.. well Elvis is not a happy boy and he is really going after the poor little rooster. We named him MaCleod today. MaCleod is way smaller than Elvis and I don't want him to get hurt. MaCleod is not even challenging Elvis and this point he is just running for dear life. Is there any way to get the Alpha rooster to calm down and not continuously go after the much smaller rooster. We had to take MaCleod out of the brooder because Elvis would not leave him alone. We have him in isolation in a pen with the bigger chickens for now. What is the right way to get them introduced to each other? You know.. so no one gets hurt.
