Flock Focus Friday, 5/29/14

The chicks I hatched from P. Allen Smith's flock are getting big- almost too big for their adopted mom to accommodate underneath her, but they are blissfully unaware of it and she remains very patient with them. She and her little ones feature prominently in this week's Flock Focus Friday- they're just too photogenic to resist!

Roosting practice began in earnest this week! I don't know what the little Dorking on the left did, but ellen deHeneres is giving her the Mommy Stink Eye if I've ever seen it.

Despite being less than half their size, this Silver Spangled Hamburg chick holds her own with the two slightly older P. Allen Smith grandchicks that ellen deHeneres rejected. All three of them were moved from my office to the big coop this week!

I know ypur busy but could you yell me the breed of the chicks 6 pics down from top? The one's that are slightly buff with yellow looking combs? I ordered an easter pack and they didn't tell me the breeds. I have 5 that look exactly like yours. I am guessing their not buff orphingtons due to the yellow combs. I would greatly appreciate your time. Also I received 2 exoctics in my order. 1 is a polish top but I have no idea how to know sex and a feather footed that started out grey and yellow. Any insite on the ones that look like yours and advive as to know sex of the two exotics would be greatly appreciated as we do not want roosters. Thanks. And oh would love the water system since pipes broke in November and I am still waiting on hubby to fix it. Thanks beautiful lady!

Sorry 1 last question. My peeps wete born on Mother's Day. At what age can they be put with the flock? Their nursery is in chicken coop so everybody starts to get to know each other but I don't know at what age the peeps are safe to mix into flock. I have 4 broody hens. They rest could care less. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into this blog. I don't know how you do it. You should be called the Super Chicken Chick!!!

I have three 14 week old chicks and want to get two more, but I am worried about assimilating them. Do I start again with 2 baby chicks or get older ones? A friend said he'd sell me 2 of his that were born a couple of weeks before mine, but that we should wait a few more weeks for my chicks to get nearly full grown. My 3 are close to each other, and are hand raised. They stay right around the house and eat from my hand. I worry grown chickens my not be as adaptable. Any thoughts?

I would love either of those awesome prizes! I need as many waterers as I can get (especially since I just won 15 chicks!!!) and I ALWAYS love more chicken feed! Ellen is too cute with those chicks! There is nothing cuter then a momma hen with her chicks! I look forward to Friday so I can see all these cute pictures! I love the captions! They fit the pictures perfectly! Thanks for the opportunity!

I love your site. It's easy to find what I need, and the pics of your babies are adorable. You have just about one of every chicken of I want! Also, I'd just love to have either of those give-aways, but ... alas, I wanted that brooder!

If that is as good or better than my current organic layer feed, then I definitely want to try it. I don't like changing my girls food as they are rather used to what they are eating. But, if it's better for them, then why not give it a try.

I've got eight babies in my bedroom/office. It's been five years since I had chicks (my last batch three years ago were pullets). I am so enjoying having them come running when they see me.

Your pictures are beautiful. Are you also a photographer? Would you consider writing tips on taking better photos of chickens? Thanks

I would love to win the waterer, we are just starting our first flock and I am constantly changing the water. We do not have a watering system in place yet so lugging jugs of water up the hill to the coop is quite a chore!
