Flock Focus Friday, 2/14/14

Black Copper Marans egg
We got pounded by Mother Nature ALL WEEK with snow storm after snow storm. It felt like the snow shovel never left my hands, but at least the temperatures were a little more moderate than they have been this winter, which makes me feel better about the comfort of my flock even though they remain primarily confined to the run.

Mr. Chicken Chick left one of these huge ornaments outside after taking it down from the coop this winter and it shattered because there was water inside. The ice globe that was inside the ornament made me want to add food coloring to water and make some more. So..I did. And it was fun!

Oh man I NEED one of these!! First, I was having mice problems in the coop. So, I moved the feeder outside and then I started having starlings flying in and stealing the food! I had to hang up CD's in the run, but I'm not sure if it's working or not! Every evening when I would go out to pick up the food, there would still be some leftover, now (even with the CD's) the feeder is always empty.... this feeder would be so super awesome to have!

I' m a low budget free range chicken girl who has spent a lot of resourcefulness creating a coop that the ladies are safe in and lots charming as well... There's a lot you can do when you want something bad enough! I love the look/ sounds of these feeders! I spend a lot of time looking at my organic pellets being pushed and knocked out of the feeders by. The ladies! Too cute though! This would be fabulous!

Trying for the feeder one more time here and then if I don't win, buying one! My girls have taken to dumping their grain lately and of course won't eat it off the coop floor! We're happy with the temps past few nights here too in Rhode Island. Those single digit nights made it about 20's in the coop, been a rough winter in New England.

Thanks for all the great information you give us. <3 My flock could use a Grandpa Feeder. I hadn't heard of them before, but now that I've seen them (thanks to your site), I do believe I must look into acquiring one or two.

  181. Those ice balls are so pretty, if only they lasted forever. The more you post pictures of your tiny Seramas the more I want one... or 5, I just live in a really bad spot for any birds that could fly over our block wall because there's a busy street on the other side. I;ve decided it's safer to stick with my fat and clumsy girls.
