Clever Chicks Blog Hop #43 with a Henbag Giveaway!

As many of you are aware, I have been working to change my town's zoning regulations to legalize backyard chicken-keeping for everyone. The current regulations are interpreted to allow only homeowners with 5 acres or more to keep chickens.

I acquired the acreage to keep my chickens but believe everyone should have that right regardless of their lot size. This has been and will continue to be a costly endeavor and I am selling Rachel & Blaze tee shirts to defray the expenses of fighting the Good Fight. Here's how you can help if you are so moved:

"Operation Home to Roost, Chickens For All" tee shirts are NOW available HERE! This is a PRE-ORDER sale. Shirt will be unisex, white, 100% pre-shrunk cotton. (The ultimate design will contain Operation Home to Roost text, not the text shown on the shirt above).  **Estimated shipping date end of July.** Don't need a tee-shirt, but wish to support the mission? The PayPal "donate" button in the top, right-hand sidebar will allow you to do just that.
Thank you for your support regardless of the form! ♥

  12. Hey Kathy, that's nuts you have to fight to have your chickens without acreage...we live in the middle of the city and we are livestock zoned. They aren't horses...what the heck.

    Kathy,
Do chickens like zucchini? My guess would be that it's not 'bug-like' enough for them, so you're probably stuck with the entire harvest.
I've got 3 zucchini recipes for you today: breakfast of Nutella-Zucchini muffins (also good as an after school snack, if you put your zucchini up for winter); supper of Zucchini, Corn, Leek, Feta and Pesto pizza; and dessert of Triple Chip Zucchini Spice cake.

I truly did not intend to have Zucchini Week on the blog, but what the heck--this fleshes out the zucchini portion of my recipe index pretty well.

    Thanks for hosting!

So glad you were able to get the land to keep your chickens! I agree that everyone should be able to keep chickens. I've only got 1 acre, but I'm outside the city limits, so I'm allowed to have poultry. I can't imagine ever living without my little flock again! Thank you for all that you do! In other news, we found out that poultry are not permitted within city limits in our town ... and we have 16 pullets that were recently moved to their coop. We definitely know we aren't keeping any roosters but even hens aren't allowed in the current ordinance. There is a new ordinance out there that allows them but it still needs to be signed by the mayor. Was wondering how you started to fight for your right for chickens -- were you contacted by the city first? Did you want chickens but saw they weren't allowed? Or were they allowed at one time but then weren't but now are again? I need to read back issues of your blogposts so if the answers are all in there, I'll find out - just wanted to ask though. Thank you for your blog, for your battle with city hall, and for all your clever posts! :)

Keeping your fight for zoning changes in your area in our prayers... We live in the middle of town and love having our chickens, and would love to see anyone in this great land of ours to be able to do the same! Love the henbags! (it would be perfectly matched to my Crazy Chicken Lady phone cover!)..... Thanks!

  165. Cute bag. I love chickens we do the 4H hatching every year for my preschool and this is the first year we are keeping them, or trying (dumb or should I say smart chicken hawk). My city allows chickens as long as they are 25 ft from any building (house). I am hoping the 4 lg chickens of some kind and 3 Americana's are girls.
