I hope I'm commenting in the right spot! My girls would love the Hen Treats package. In fact, my 6-year-old grandson just calls mealworms "frenzy" because of the Happy Hens packaging. Watching the girls go nuts was the perfect way to teach him the definition of this word!

  26. I was just scrolling down the page looking at the blog topics and the one about Training your dog with chickens jumped out. It made me laugh. I didn't have to train my BIG Black Lab named Maximus. One lil ol mama hen did it for me. She whooped him all around his pen and the shop and the yards! Now I look out and see baby chicks and even baby ducks roaming in his room while he sits in his house watching. Too cool!

  124. Terri Willey7/9/13, 4:55 PM

As much as I deserve to have a relaxing bath with the bars of Hogwash soap, I think I have a few hens who deserve special treats even more. My Jersey Giant and Mottled Java hens have sat on and hatched a total of 6 duck eggs between them in the last 6 weeks. Anyone who has used a hen as a surrogate for a momma duck should know how stressful it is for them to try to understand why their sweet little babies jump into the big ducks pool whenever they can and would rather sit in a mud puddle than learn to scratch around in the grass. Right now the newest babies (10 days old) are sitting under the sprinkler taking a nap and she is trying to stay there with them in the mist for as long as she can. Then she runs to the edge of the spray and tries to talk them into coming out to the dry area and learn to scratch without much success. What a good and fierce momma she is!

I made the mistake of spoiling my chicks to live mealworms when they were just babies so the first time they tried happy hens treats mealworm frenzy they just turned up their noses. until I mixed them in with the feed and then they fought over them. LOL
