Flock Focus Friday, 6/28/13

Blaze (Black Copper Marans rooster) returned home from the vet hospital yesterday . Although his illness is still a mystery, he seems to have improved and is eating & drinking independently. The girlz miss him.
Summer bounty
Brutus (Mille Fleur Serama rooster) held down the fort while Blaze was out of commission.
Doc Brown (White Crested Black Polish pullet)

Windy (Blue Splash Marans hen)
She's got some genetic issues including a defective shell gland, which causes her to lay funky eggs and crooked toe
Aurora (White Leghorn pullet)
This little guy will be re-homed soon as we are over our rooster limit already.
He is a cross between a Black Copper Marans and a Wheaten Marans.
With temperatures in the 90s this week, photos of this past winter make me
thankful for the heat even if the chickens aren't.

  61. So happy Blaze is doing better! I love your site, I have learned so much from you. I hate to keep signing on as a guest but whenever I put in a password they tell me my email is already in use and 'do you already have an account?' not how to find the obviously wrong password. I usually write all passwords down when I set up accounts but I seem to have missed this one. I have a book I call the book of stupid codes or stupid's book of codes, depending on my mood!

Glad Blaze is back, I hope they figure out what the mystery illness was. You mentioned you found a worm in his poop and took it in with Blaze to the Vet, but in the past you said you will not deworm your chickens and rely on a clean coop, etc. are you going to reconsider your previous belief?
I love what you do and so glad you are financially able to save Blaze. He might not have been so lucky elsewhere. I know I can not stretch $18,000 a year as a single mom to cover an unexpected expense like that.
