  8. This week we could have used the Vetericyn. One of our chickens had an eye infection. It is much better today. I used Neosporin after cleaning the wound with a warm wet washrag. I hope you had a great Mother's Day!

    Kathy,
You have a gift for making chicken keeping seem easy and fun. Makes me hope that our next home is in a place where we can have a few girls. In the meantime, my daughter especially likes to visit the chickens when we go to the farm that grows our food. My son, he could take them or leave them, but thinks the RV they live in is pretty cool.
Today I've linked up a chicken dish, a beef dish, and a vegetarian pizza. I was fixing lunch for my daughter and had the kitchen scale out, so I made Chicken Salad by the Ounce. Fun and easy, and scales don't cost too much--and are so worth it in baking!
I'm also linking up Very Veggie Sloppy Joes for a Crowd, plus the multiple ways our family likes to eat our joes.
Lastly, a focaccia pizza made with arugula pesto to give the dough a wonderful flavor, and simply topped with artichokes, olives, feta and goat cheeses for a Mediterranean flavor.
    Thanks for hosting!

And I thought I was going to have to go buy some more :) We will even have enough to share with our neighbor who has decided she wants to add guinea hens to her property.

  20. I love this product! One of my 1 wk old Marans had pasty butt and when I went to clean it off, a little of his fluff came off. There was a little blood and I was afraid that the other chicks would pick at her, so I put Vetericyn on it and by the next morning, she was normal. I also put a little Preparation H on her to help with the swelling. I get so much good information on this blog! Thanks again and I would LOVE to win either of the prizes this week. Have a great week everyone!

  68. I follow also. BUT vetrimycin is something I recommend to everyone. I bought it last year and scraped the price off so my DH would not see it. I have used it for EVERY wound. It heals faster than anything I have ever seen. And it must taste bad to other chickens because I even sprayed my cochin hen who was looking a lot like a turken because somebody was picking all her feathers out. Whoever it was has left her alone and the feathers are starting to grow back. Upped the protein also. I would love to win!!

OMG! The pix of all the chickens crammed into that one nesting box? Reminds me of a pix I took of my girls...on the SIDE of our nexting boxes. They all prefer to lay there...I checked one day, and there were three of them there! It's an area about 1/2 the width of a nesting box...but as deep. All I saw was this chicken's head, that one's tail...and THAT one's tail sticking the other way :)!

Love your blog and frequently re-read articles as things come up in our flock, or to be better prepared for if they do. Sorry to hear about your hen, but after reading your post about it we decided to let ours free range daily and that if even the chicken chick looses some to predators even while outside with them then we need to trust in the security that we have set up and know that nothing except keeping them locked in the coop all of the time will prevent predator loss. I was happy because I love watching them roam freely around the yard.

I really love your blog hops; but sometimes my productivity takes a beating lol ;-) A Vetericyn product set would jump start my rather small barn first aid kit =) I'm quickly learning just how dominant one of my hens is and how; as they say, "it flows downhill from there." Stella chases Chrysós away from the treats; she in turns goes after Honey; who takes it out on my aged Polish gals, Ms Kura and Ms Piroski. They now sport punked purple crests both to treat the pecked scalps and to hide the white feather & blood spot targets.

My chicken all of a sudden, for about 20 minutes tonight out of nowhere started sneezing - at first I thought she was giving a warning cry - but it was like sneezing or maybe hiccoughs? Never heard such a sound before. Antibiotic time? I worry so. No mucus, just that sound and head snap... ?

  178. Oh, my...I thought I had been all over your page collecting tips and ideas but somehow I never thought to look at the blogs. I always thought blogs were just diary-like entries about how one went to the store or enjoyed the weather today. Looks like I have several weeks of reading ahead of me, not just on your site but on a couple of homestead sites as well. Thanks a lot. Always learning and spreading the new-found wisdom when I can.
