  12. I just found you on Facebook sometime this week and have enjoyed following someone that enjoys having her "peeps" around as much as I do. I was wondering what others do when they decide they need a vacation? I have slowly been introducing our neighbor lady to our girls over the past year. She even brought some goodies from her garden this afternoon (cherry tomatoes and a watermelon that were over ripe) when I was not home and said she had a blast watching them chase each other for a bite of a tomato from anothers beak even though she had plenty tossed to them. I came home and none of them met me at the door looking for a snack because they were sunning themselves with very full tummies, I stopped by the fence line later with a dozen eggs as a "Thank you" from our happy girls and she said she is thinking she maybe considering talking hubby into getting a few girls, I said maybe she can babysit some weekend or longer so we can go somewhere, but she said she would be to nervous. What other type of stuff should I be doing to make her into a more confident chickensitter?

    Hi Kristi.
Hmmm. I don't know of one in particular, but I can suggest going to BackyardChickens.com and looking in their Buy-Sell-Auction section for chickens. That's where I'd start anyway.

Thank you, Pam. "Dabbling" is a good word for my approach to photography too, just without time to learn how to use my camera properly! LOL
Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note. :)

LOL, Karen. I don't mind the gawking and strolling along side, if they would only not walk directly in front of me, that would be a big help!

Hmmm. She doesn't sound like she's uncomfortable with the chickens (and they sound pretty comfortable with her!). It may be something else that is making her hesitant. Caring for someone's pets is a huge responsibility and chickens aren't the run-of-the-mill pet. There could be some other reason too, who knows, but I don't think I'd push the issue. If she brings it up, that's fine, but otherwise, I'd try to find someone else to chicken-sit for you.
My family members are in the area and are always happy to help with my peeps while I'm away.

    Good luck with this challenge.

Good for you, Tina! Be sure to check on the zoning code and municipal laws in any town you are considering moving to as not all allow residential chicken-keeping. Retirement communities and HOAs are among the most strict in their rules about pets.

Thanks for being with me here and on Facebook!

Interesting article, Lisa. However, the doctor who wrote it was referring to grocery store eggs and labeling more than backyard chicken terminology. While I'm not up to date on the federal government's classifications for egg carton labeling, their definitions do not apply to my peeps. I refer to my chickens as free-range because they are free to wander anywhere on my property they would like, I don't consider my backyard a 'pasture,' so I'll keep using the term free-range, confident in the knowledge that my customers know eggsactly what they're getting in their egg cartons. ;)

  34. I am new to your FB page when I was strolling through photos of chickens. (as it seems to be my hobby now, lol) Looks like a Fun page with alot of good ideas and info. I had to laugh when I came across this t-shirt giveaway, for it seems I am randomly asked this question quite often! My Great Nieces visited from Kentucky asking my Mother why her eggs were so dirty..because the eggs at the store are not dirty...(I never wash my eggs, until use, to save from bacteria growing) so they came to visit me at The Farm, collecting the eggs, holding the babies, and this still makes me chuckle...wanting to take an egg home for it to hatch so they could have a baby chick..LOL. Sooo now it is a Family chuckle...Got eggs???? LOL...I know I will enjoy your page and look forward to new ideas.
